It’s natural to run when you see everybody else running. When danger seems near and up ahead, you have a natural reaction to take flight. The coronavirus has come upon the world in such a way that many of us have never experienced in our lifetime. We’ve heard stories of previous outbreaks before our time but hadn’t experienced it until now. It has become an absolute threat to our health, work life, recreational life, finances, and everything you can imagine. There’s no doubt, the threat is real and enormous.I said all that to say…. You shouldn’t worry! Let me tell you why…
As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!” (Mark 4:35-41)
Imagine if Jesus was with us now in his physical body, we’d be shaking him to wake up and asking why is He sleeping during all of this chaos. Do you not think Jesus doesn’t see our storm, our threat to the world? The Lord requires us to not be afraid; to have faith. When you have faith, you remain calm in the storm. Though there may be chaos, your spirit is at peace. You remain calm about the threat because you trust God that everything is going to turn out good for you.
Having faith requires you to have a different perspective than the world's perspective. You must respond to what God says and not the fear that’s so easy to give into. Am I saying to not take precautions during this time? Of course not. You should follow all the guidelines the federal and state agencies are providing so that you’re less exposed to any possible infection. However, you must also be practical in your approach to it all, expect that God is on the case, pray, and look for what’s good about what’s going on.
I personally believe that this is a time of reset, especially with all the hatred and division that has been going on with our country. We’re being forced to retreat, to start again, and to cleanse the air so to speak. Imagine how people will come together; maybe care more; maybe even love more. Imagine how people will transform for the better. They’ll definitely reach out to God more and look for Him. It may get rougher before it gets better, but God’s hand is always at work. Trust it. Stick to Him during this time and everything will be okay. He loves you and wouldn't let His Promises be in vain.
So, if He’s calling us to retreat and renew, what might that mean for you? There are various ways to show God your faith; that you trust Him. As there is no real end date ahead of when this threat is over, most of us are buying back time. See it as an opportunity and not a curse. This is a great time for to consider thinking about things you’ve always wanted to do or now have time to do, especially if it adds to the Kingdom of God. If you can’t think of anything, here’s a few ideas to get you motivated:

Your Calm in the Storm can lead to something bigger and greater than yourself. Imagine at the end of all this, your book is completed, you’ve lost 10 pounds, your business has it's first customer, or you found new love. This is the ultimate time to get started. In the meantime, only get the practical news you need for guidance, live your life, and continue to trust God. Do not be afraid. Yes, you can concentrate and put all your focus into coronavirus but at the end of it all, how would that benefit you? Don’t waste this time. Use it wisely. While God is healing the world, work on your own growth and healing. Give way to love; not fear.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7)
As you and your family navigate through the rough waters, I pray for you peace and calm. I pray for you a new perspective and mindset during this time so that you can show God your faith by enlightening your path toward LIFE! I pray you find something new in your relationship with God; that your attention be upon Him and Him only. May you draw closer to His bosom. I pray the Lord moves in your life unlike ever before. May he protect you, watch over you, and provide for your every need. I pray all this in Jesus Name. I thank God for getting us through it all and for the many blessings in Him continuing to take care of us!
Amen!
